Everything you need to know about the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
It’s finally here. The long-awaited launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus happened this morning, right before our eyes.
Here’s a quick look at everything you need to know:
Visually the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus appears identical the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with the same dimensions and screen size. However, you’ll find the new phones a few grams heavier. Colour wise, they come in gold, rose gold and silver, as well as the new black and glossy jet black colours.
The one feature they didn’t manage to keep a secret. Rather than connecting through the traditional audio jack, headphones now use the phones charging port. Fed up of tangled wires? You can also purchase the highly anticipated AirPods, a set of wireless headphones with built-in microphone. Perfect for those on-the-go conference calls.
The jokes about rice producers going out of business have already started… The iPhone 7 is both water and dust resistance. This means that if your phone takes an unexpected dip in the loo, there’s no need to panic. In fact, theoretically the phone should be able to last for 30 minutes at a depth of up to 1 meter without any serious damage.
Dual lens camera
The iPhone 7’s 12MP camera has improved long range photo capabilities, takes snaps 60% faster than previous models and has a new portrait feature to give depth of field (that lovely blurred background effect you get using a pro camera). In addition, the iPhone 7 Plus boasts a dual lens camera, meaning it can also take wide angle and telephoto snaps.
Improved battery life
Hurrah! Just when we were thinking all these snazzy new features will inevitably put even more stress on our already dwindling battery life, Apple have confirmed the iPhone 7 can last up to two hours longer than the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 7 Plus 1 hour longer.
The new iPhones are out for shipment on Friday 16th September for domestic customers. Whilst re-sellers, such as Arden Group have not yet been given an official date for their supply, we don’t expect it to be too far into the future.
In the meantime, we’re excited for the launch Apples new software update iOS 10. Jam packed with new features, sure to make your existing iPhone feel brand spanking new. Here’s what to expect:
The phone will now identify when it’s picked up, automatically lighting the display to show notifications, weather information and appointments.
Goodbye swipe to unlock
Unlocking your phone will only require a touch of your home button, along with either fingerprint recognition or passcode.
Similar to android devices, iOS 10 will allow the iPhone to display widgets on the home screen. Providing users with a quick look into the app and allowing them to reply to messages without having to open it.
Siri just graduated
Even smarter than before, Siri will soon work alongside third party apps, allowing you to complete tasks such as booking a flight, ordering a take away or sending a whatsapp hands-free. You’ll also be able to use Siri to transcribe voicemails.
iMessage takes on Whatsapp
A major improvement has been made to the iMessage function. Again by allowing integration of third-party apps you’ll be able to order a taxi, shop and book tickets from the comfort of iMessage. It also comes with new fun features such as animated backgrounds, stickers and video integration.
Other features that have been improved as part of this major overhaul include Maps, Apple Music and Apple news. iOS is available for download from the 13th September.
